Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life, and you’d like it to go off without a hitch. We’ve made a list of wedding hacks that will help you prepare for a fun and busy day.

1. GET THE PARTY STARTED

One of the best hacks to ensure your wedding is fun and memorable is to hire experienced and reliable wedding entertainment.

A lousy wedding DJ can turn a beautiful day into an awkward shuffle fest. Make sure you do your research before investing.

It’s also a great idea to give your DJ a list of “must play” and “do not’t play” songs, so they don’t accidentally kill the vibe with a track you hate. 

2. SMELL FRESH ALL DAY 

No matter how low-key or well planned your wedding day is, you’re most likely going to be running around and busy from dawn until dusk.

In a short time, stress sweat will have you smelling funky, precisely what you don’t want when you’re hugging people and shaking hands all day. 

To keep yourself feeling (and smelling) fresh, consider bringing body wipes and a backup stick of deodorant and keep it in an easily accessible bag, or emergency kit.

You can also enhance the fragrance of your favorite scent and make it last longer. Achieve this by dabbing petroleum jelly or coconut oil on your wrists and rubbing it in before spraying on your perfume or cologne. 

3. PREVENT RUNAWAY VEILS

A wedding veil is a gorgeous traditional accessory that adds romance to any wedding look. 

However, veils can also add the wrong kind of drama to your photography session by flying away or getting tangled in surrounding shrubberies. 

If you plan on taking wedding photos outside, invest in some magnetic weights and do a test run with your veil. It’s a small and easy step that will help you get the fairytale photo of your dreams. 

4. STOP AN ANKLE SPRAIN BEFORE IT STARTS

Lots of bridal parties choose to wear heels on the wedding day, yet forget to think about what surfaces they’ll be traversing while wearing them. 

It’s hard enough to walk in heels – imagine having to worry about sinking into the grass while holding a bouquet! 

Before your photo session, hand out heel protectors to all your ladies. The plastic caps will help them walk with confidence and protect shoes from dirt and stains. 

5. AVOID THE HANGRY BRIDE AND GROOM

Often the bride and groom are so busy trying to talk to all of their guests that they don’t give themselves time to eat. 

Before the reception, talk with your caterer about packaging up a to-go bag with food and cake that you can take with you at the end of the night. 

6. “INDEPENDENTLY MINDED” FLOWER GIRL OR RINGBEARER 

It’s a beautiful idea to include your youngest loved ones on your special day. Kids look so darn cute all dressed up that many couples can’t resist having them carry flowers or rings. 

However, we all know that kids can sometimes get overwhelmed during events and freeze, balk, or cry when it’s their turn to walk down the aisle. 

Make sure you have a backup plan in case an adorable cherub has a meltdown before their 15 seconds of fame. Have their mom and dad on hand waiting on the sidelines to carry them down the aisle, or take them to sit down and let the ceremony keep rolling. 

7. KEEP YOUR FEET – AND YOUR GUESTS – HAPPY

Look, we get it. The most beautiful shoes are not always the most comfortable. And that’s perfectly fine for the photos and the ceremony. 

But if you want to boogie down – or even walk around and mingle – having painful shoes will seriously cramp your style. 

Make sure to pack a pair of comfortable flats in your wedding bag. You’ll thank yourself later when you aren’t hobbling around your reception. And, if you love your guests, consider putting out a bucket of flip flops for them to put on during the dancing!

Be sure to break in your shoes before the big day; this will help you avoid painful blisters.

There’s no need to walk around for hours. You can throw on a thick pair of socks, slip on your shoes, and blast the tight areas with a hairdryer. Stretch, flex, and heat for about 10 minutes and let the shoes cool before taking them off. 

8. STAY ON SCHEDULE

Print out a detailed schedule and hand it out to everyone in the bridal party before the ceremony. 

There’s nothing more stressful than being a bride or groom and also answering the same questions a thousand times while you’re trying to get ready. 

9. AVOID BUSTLE TROUBLE

Long trains add drama and elegance to a wedding gown, but they can also be a pain in the butt if you’re trying to dance or walk without getting stepped on.

Bustling a wedding dress is not something the bride can do herself. You should have two people go with you to your fittings and learn how to bustle the dress well before the wedding day. If you are having alterations, consider asking your seamstress to add some extra ties/buttons/hooks to the bustle. As DJs, we’ve seen way too many brides carrying around their train by the end of their dance due to failed bustling. 

Don’t just pin it and pray. You risk ripping the dress or holding your train awkwardly all night if you don’t bustle it correctly. Planning ahead for this seemingly minor tip will save you a lot of trouble at the end of the night.
