The story of the Lafayette Club goes back to the 1880s when a grand hotel opened on the site.  The hotel hosted many famous visitors, including several United States Presidents.  Unfortunately, the original hotel was destroyed by fire in 1897.  The Lafayette Club, a private membership club,  began on the site in 1899.  The current clubhouse dates to 1925.
