Wed Without Worry

Wed Without Worry

It has been said that “Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow. It empties today of its strength.” The wedding planning process can seem overwhelming at times but there are ways to managing without that sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach. Here at Adagio, we not only want your wedding to go great, we want you to be feeling great during the whole process. If you or your spouse are struggling with worrying about your wedding, there is no shame in that. Simply work to try to fix it. Consider some of the following tips to teach you how not to worry. They will help you have a worry-free wedding.

The News & Social Media

One of the first things to help you stop worrying would be to stop filling your mind with stories and news feeds of negative or pessimistic things. We know this not directly correlated to your wedding specifically but it is connected to your life. Modern science has proven that your mind is like a sponge, what you put in your mind is what you get out. Put trash in, and you’ll get trash out. Your perspective on life is determined by what you focus on, both positive and negative. Our suggestion is to clean up your social media and make a conscious decision that you’re going to keep your mind on the most positive things. As for watching the news, once again, be cautious of what you’re putting into that precious mind of yours. Work on focusing on what could go right instead of what could go wrong. Focusing on the best in people, yourself and your situation will eventually become a habit and that habit will carry you to new heights in your own personal happiness and fulfillment.

Write Down Your Worries

We know this sounds counterintuitive, right? It might seem like writing down your worries would actually make them worst. However, according to a study done by the University of Chicago the very opposite may actually be true. When you write down your worries it’s almost as if you release your fears and worries out of your mind and onto a piece of paper. Once they are out of your mind and down on paper they no longer have to clutter mental space that you’ve been giving them. Also, once they are written down you can now make plans to take action steps in fixing the problem that is causing the worry. After all, the only two things you can control are your actions and your attitude. If you master both of those, then worry will have no room in your life anymore.

Exercise & Meditation

Take time for yourself to recharge and recover. Planning your wedding can be a lot of work. With all that extra work, you may add extra stress and worry to your plate. This is especially true if you have a full-time job, kids, or other responsibilities that take a lot of your time. Staying worry-free for your wedding comes down to balance. Balance means, not procrastinating your wedding planning and giving yourself enough time to get done the important things. During this planning process, it’s healthy to spend some time in exercise and meditation. Exercise has been clinically proven to increase chemicals in your brain such as serotonin. This chemical makes you feel happy and reduces the effects of oxidative stress. This leads to less worrying and a better balance in your life/planning process. Meditation has also been proven to lead to worrying less. The Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience journal has published studies showing that meditation has positive effects on the anterior cingulate cortex and ventromedial prefrontal cortex brain regions. These brain regions control emotions and anxiety. Our advice is to balance your life better planning a little here and a little there while still making time for exercise and meditation as part of living a healthier lifestyle.

We sincerely hope this article about having a worry-free wedding and really a worry-free life will serve you in these up and coming months before you tie the knot. Learning how not to worry is a great skill to have and you deserve to live a happy and fulfilling life. If worry, anxiety or stress has been knocking at your door remember, if nothing changes, then nothing changes. So, take steps to create positive change in your life. You won’t regret it!
